Sexual Health FAQ

Sexual Health

  • How often should I get tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)?

It’s recommended to get tested annually if you’re sexually active, or more frequently if you have new or multiple partners.

  • Can I contract an STI even if I use protection?

While condoms and other protective measures significantly reduce the risk of STIs, they are not 100% effective, especially against infections spread through skin-to-skin contact, like HPV or herpes.

  • What should I do if I experience pain during sex?

Pain during sex is not normal and could indicate conditions like vaginal dryness, infections, or pelvic floor dysfunction. Consult your healthcare provider for evaluation.

  • How can I reduce the risk of STIs?

Consistently using condoms, getting vaccinated for HPV and hepatitis B, and having open conversations with your partner(s) about sexual health can reduce your risk.

  • What are the signs of an STI?

Common signs include unusual discharge, itching, burning during urination, and sores or bumps in the genital area. However, many STIs can be asymptomatic, so regular testing is important.
