Breast Health

  • When should I start performing breast self-exams?

Breast self-exams can be started in your 20s to familiarize yourself with your normal breast tissue and detect any changes early.

  • How often should I get a mammogram?

Mammograms are typically recommended every 1-2 years starting at age 40, or earlier if you have a family history of breast cancer.

  • What are the warning signs of breast cancer?

Warning signs include a new lump, changes in breast size or shape, dimpling of the skin, nipple discharge, or persistent pain. Consult a doctor if you notice any of these changes.

  • Are all breast lumps cancerous?

No, most breast lumps are benign and may be caused by cysts or fibroadenomas. However, all lumps should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.

  • Does breast density affect my risk of breast cancer?

Yes, dense breast tissue can increase the risk of breast cancer and make it harder to detect on a mammogram. Your doctor may recommend additional imaging if you have dense breasts.
